Face Lift - Facial Rejuvenation

Face lift (rhytidectomy) is a surgery for restoring the freshness of the face. It does not change the base of the face and does not stop the aging process. Face lift is done only through surgery. Non-surgical rejuvenation treatments cannot result in similar outcomes, but can postpone the right time of face lift or complete surgical outcomes. Fat injection is a very helpful adjuvant method.

Face, cheeks, and neck fat can be re-shaped and moved and the underlying tissue can be placed in a new position. Usually the deeper layers of the face and muscles are also lifted. Then the facial skin is stretched over the lifted areas and the excess skin is removed. Face lift incisions are located in front and behind the ear. An additional incision may be made under the chin to improve the aging neck. The incisions can be closed by sutures or skin adhesives.

Sagging cheeks, loose skin of the neck, and excess fat under the chin can be corrected with a neck lift. Neck lift incision usually begins from the earlobe anterior, turns to the ear posterior, and continues to hair growth site.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • It takes 5 to 6 hours indicating that the operation is a very precise and sensitive surgery.

  • One night stay in the clinic is recommended due to long duration of operation.

  • Blood tests (tests of coagulation, virus, blood sugar, urea, etc.). Since patients undergoing this surgery have a higher age and may suffer from hypertension and cardiovascular and pulmonary disease, you should consult with your doctor.
  • Let doctor Manafi know if you smoke.
  • Let doctor Manafi know if you use certain drugs (especially those that increase or lower bleeding risk such as aspirin, vitamin E, and anti-coagulant drugs).
  • Inform doctor Manafi if you are pregnant or even possibly pregnant.

  • Driving short distances is permitted.

  • You can take a short bath 48 to 72 hours after operation and you can start walking after one weeks after surgery and gradually increase it.

  • Patients will resume their daily activities in 2 to 3 weeks after surgery, while it takes almost 1 to 6 months to see the final result.

  • Do not use clothing that is worn from the head or is too tight, because there is likely to hit.

  • The head must be higher for 3 to 4 weeks.

  • No special leave is required but resting for 4-5 days is recommended.

  • The patient can be anesthetized either generally or through deep sleep (standby anesthesia). General anesthesia is the best method to provide a safe breathing way, but if the surgery is not long, the patient can be anesthetized through deep sleep. Surgeries requiring anesthesia are associated with some risks, but they can be minimized if the surgeon has more detailed information of the patient’s history, examinations and tests are carried out properly, and the surgery is performed in equipped clinics and hospitals which are approved by the Ministry of Health. There is a risk of bleeding after surgery which is more likely in smokers and hypertensive people. Also, the skin may become necrotic in smokers after surgery.

  • The patient is recommended to avoid heavy work one day after operation, and rest more because the skin is numb after operation and is likely to be injured or burnt in the operated area, thus do not use hot water when bathing and do not use vibration devices (massagers) on head and face.

  • This depends on the diagnosis of the physician, for example, the wrinkles can be reduced by Botox or fat injection, but neck lift surgery is helpful in those with much facial sagging.
